About Dr. Hosmane

Dr. Vinay R. Hosmane was born in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, and came to the United States at one year of age. He is a Delaware local and considers his hometown Lewes, DE. He is a third-generation physician. He grew up spending time in his father’s (R.U. Hosmane, MD, FACS, FRCS) Urology practice. He also remembers spending time with his grandfather (Umesh G. Hosmane, LCPS) who was a general practitioner in India, seeing patients in his clinic and making house calls.

He graduated from Cape Henlopen High School. Afterward, he attended the University of Delaware and graduated with a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in Medical Humanities. He then proceeded to complete a Master’s Degree in Public Health in 14 months at The George Washington University School of Public Health prior to obtaining his Doctor of Medicine degree at St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. His clinical clerkships were completed at St. Joesph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson, NJ.

Dr. Hosmane’s Internal Medicine residency training at Christiana Care Health System in Newark, DE provided a great foundation for his future career in Cardiology and his interest in the comprehensive care of the entire patient. He then honed his skills by spending a year working as an Internal Medicine Hospitalist at Christiana Hospital for a private group, Hospitalists of Delaware (H.O.D), which is now known as IPC/Inpatient Consultants-HOD. At that time, he began interviewing prospective medical students on behalf of St. George’s University as a way of giving back to his school; he continues this tradition now. In addition, he volunteered to teach to third-year medical students. During that year, he also assisted his Father with outpatient Urology, one day a week. Also, he began to develop an interest in clinical research within the field of Cardiology. These experiences made him realize the interplay between the heart, different diseases, and medical specialties.

Dr. Hosmane then went on to join the Cardiology Fellowship training program at Jefferson Medical College/Christiana Care Health System in Newark, DE. He was a member of the charter class, which consisted of just two trainees, and he helped his mentors develop the new training program.

During this training, he specialized in Non-Invasive Cardiology and obtained the highest level of certification in cardiac ultrasound/echocardiography (Board Certification in Echocardiography and Level III Certification). Dr. Hosmane also presented his research, conducted with several other local physicians, at several national conferences and was published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. The research has been cited numerous times worldwide and even by the American Heart Association.

Upon completing his Cardiology Training, he became an Attending Physician at Christiana Care Health System in Newark, DE. Dr. Hosmane has continued his love of teaching by training and mentoring Cardiology Trainees/Fellows and Medical Residents. Also, medical students from multiple medical schools elect to spend one-month rotations with him; he is proud of the fact that a few of his students have stayed on to become resident doctors at Christiana Hospital. One of his former students even followed behind him through the Internal Medicine and Cardiology training at Christiana Hospital.

He also provides cardiac consultation to a Health & Wellness Center in Mt. Airy, Maryland with one of his medical school classmates. In addition, he has been evaluating student-athletes at Delaware State University.

Dr. Hosmane lives locally with his family. He enjoys family time and outdoor activities. His daily interactions with patients and their families are also an important part of his life. Of late he has been playing tennis year round. He is a passionate soccer fan and played for almost 20 years. He has been to several World Cups as a fan and is a diehard MLS soccer fan. He closely follows his team, the Philadelphia Union. Dr. Hosmane also enjoys photography. His work is displayed in his offices. Another interest is travel, which he feels is an education in itself.
